Nobody understands. Nobody knows what we've gone through. They don't know the pain. If they did, they'd understand. So, we put up a wall. A really thick one. No matter what people do or say to us, we just let it roll off our backs. Or so we think... The question certainly isn't about "IF" you have any hurts. The real question is how many? Questions like "how fresh are the wounds" or "how deep" force us to come face to face with the reality of our pain. We don't like that. So we avoid the questions, hoping to avoid the pain. We think we've brushed it off - let it go - but the reality is that we just sweep it under the rug. We think it's gone, until one day, we trip over it...again. We thought it was over with. We thought it didn't bother us. We thought we had forgotten about it. But something always seems to remind us. It may not be today, tomorrow, or even next week. But something always reminds us. A song, a face, a sound, a location, a smell, a similar situation. And then it all comes rushing back, doesn't it? Have you ever said any of these to yourself?
Sure you have. We all have. There's just something about being one of "those" people. Embarrassing. Humiliating. Shameful. But it doesn't have to be that way. Our society has created a stigma for "those" people, so, in our pride, we hide our issues in the shadows when what we really want is a life of true freedom. Free from the past. Free from the failure. Free from the addiction. Free from the pain. Free to live again. Experience the FREEDOM that Celebrate Recovery can bring to your life. |
