Back to Main Hurts Hangups

Seriously.
I've got it under control.
It's not even a problem, so get off my back.

Why is it so hard to admit the truth? Are we that full of ourselves that we can't even face the obvious? Is it really possible that everyone around me is wrong about this?

Have you ever said any of these to yourself?

  • Problem? I don’t have a problem.
  • I've got it under control.
  • If you lived my life, you’d do this too.
  • I just want some relief.
  • I can stop any time I want to.
  • I’m not nearly as bad as other people.
  • I can’t quit! I need this just to make it through the day.
  • God doesn’t care about me.
  • I’ve hurt too many people.
  • I don’t have the time (or money) to get help.
  • Everybody does it. What’s the big deal?
  • I’m not hurting anybody but myself.

Sure you have. We all have. There's just something about being one of "those" people.

Embarrassing.

Humiliating.

Shameful.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Our society has created a stigma for "those" people, so, in our pride, we hide our issues in the shadows when what we really want is a life of true freedom. Free from the past. Free from the failure. Free from the addiction. Free from the pain. Free to live again.
